2007-02-08 10:30:00 | Hi guys, I just changed my plan back to go large (it's that time of the month again) and I've lost all my international connectivity - I can't connect to ANY international server. Is this just me, or just go large, or everyone on xtra, or the whole country?

2007-02-08 10:37:00 | My connection is fine, on Xtra (but not on the Go Large plan). Have you done the whole re-boot thing? | Greg (193) | |
2007-02-08 10:43:00 | Yeah, but it ain't that - I've done some more digging and it appears that my DNS is down, and that's what's causing the issue. I'm using my own dns server, forwarding telstraclears ones. It appears that I can resolve addresses I've been to before (like PF1) but not new addresses. I'm about to try messing with the forwarding to see if it's my server or telstra's at fault, or whether it's just connectivity to telstra's network. Can someone do an nslookup on google.com for me? [edit: Never mind, I just discovered I can still ssh to chatf1, so I'll use that server for the lookups.] Cheers, Bletch

2007-02-08 10:44:00 | I'm with Xtra, but not Go Large plan....it's working for me, but I have had some freezing tonight. | Marnie (4574) | |
2007-02-08 10:57:00 | Right - problem solved. It appears that TelstraClear has blocked access to its dns servers from outside its own network (or at least from xtra go large). As such, all of my DNS queries were getting blocked. I'm now back on xtra's dns servers :( Can anyone recommend a more reliable server that I can use? The TelstraClear ones were wonderful, but unfortunately I can no longer access them.

2007-02-08 11:00:00 | I just changed my plan back to go large (it's that time of the month again) Heh :D What sort of speeds are you now getting? 100KB/s? ( + or = that?) and I've lost all my international connectivity - I can't connect to ANY international server. Is this just me, or just go large, or everyone on xtra, or the whole country? 11:47 pm I can access cnn.com, & other overseas sites fine ( I have few forums on overseas servers & they all load up fine) Maybe try changing DNS server so you don’t use Xtra default ones, try these other Xtra DNS servers: 202.27.158.40 202.27.158.72 Hope this helps :)

2007-02-08 12:06:00 | Meh, work has been having loads of problems with Net connections all the time. They are with Xtra and have had constant problems with the internet just not working every so often. Usually once a week/fortnight. It's annoying since our EFTPOS is hooked up to send data using the internet instead of the bog standard method.
