| 730865 | 2008-12-19 02:39:00 | Hi all P4 3.0GHz, 1Gb Ram, X1950 Pro AGP (yes old I know) I mainly play counter strike source, it used to run very smooth on highest settings, with my 17" LCD. I bought a new 19" wide screen, but discovered that it looks bad and runs laggy with my current graphics card at the 1440 x 900 wide screen resolution, so changed back to my old 17" normal 4:3 LCD. But problem is, it is still lagging, not badly, just doesn't run very smooth like before, in intense shooting action it lags a bit more, making it quite difficult. Any idea why it's doing this and how I can fix it? I may have damaged the graphics card while changing monitors? Because I didn't bother turning the computer off, maybe a very bad mistake, I just unplugged the old and plugged the new. New monitor stays blank, so restarted, and I get all the weird colour pixels on my screen (like a broken gfx card), graphics card won't work for a while, I took it out, then put it back in and it works again. Could this have caused the lagging problem? Any input appreciated. Cheers |

Well yeah, not a good idea swapping a card if the computer was still on at the time. It probably killed part of the slot/port, you plugged it into |

Have you tried disabling the 2nd graphics out? So only 1 graphics port is active? I know that when I play movies on my secondary monitor, it gets choppy (as if hardware acceleration doesn't apply to the secondary display). When I set the secondary display to be the primary, everything is back to normal again. |

| 730874 | 2008-12-19 07:22:00 | well my friend had a similar problem its mainly because you used a vga cable.. dvi cables have a higher tranfer rate than vga. My friend used his vga cable but when his pc screwd up i used a dvi cable. when i installed counter strike source it lagged a bit and went black screening on me midgame. BUT when i took it back to his place and connected everything to his pc and used the vga cable it went like it normally would. So yea use your vga cable see how that fairs out. |
