730740 2008-12-18 21:32:00 I have a problem which I can't seem to figure out. I keep getting mails promoting viagra, cialis etc etc, but the mails carry my own email id as sender. For this reason I am reluctant to block it as spam. Is this some kind of virus? My ISP is Xtra. madan284 (7145)

You may have a virus or worm on your computer that has turned your computer into a sender of those email.
It also could be that spammers are using your email address as the 'reply address' which they can do due to the way email works, you can check this by looking in the header of the emails to see where it was sent from.

730742 2008-12-19 00:51:00 Firstly, there is absolutely no reason to put up with the poor spam protection of xtra . Move to a gmail account as they have a superb spam filter . You then also won't have to change your email address if you change ISP's .

That aside, like robby says, there are a couple of considerations . I would also thoroughly scan your machine for malware . But you just can't stop a spammer using your email address if, indeed, this is what is happening .

See how the scans go .

730743 2008-12-19 10:01:00 I've had a few spam emails faked from myself in the past, but recently I've been getting a lot of them.

All apparently sent from me, to someone else

The idea of a virus did cross my mind but haven't looked into that possibility yet.

730744 2008-12-19 10:10:00 Yes I found a email in my spam box at actrix today sent by me as well. The email was a blank email, nothing in it.

730745 2008-12-21 06:05:00 I doubt it's a virus as I was using Ubuntu for the past two days and still continued to get said emails Agent_24 (57)
730746 2008-12-21 11:05:00 View the message headers, you will find out where it came from, they probally just used your address as a return path. Rob99 (151)
730747 2008-12-22 00:20:00 The answer is simple.Spammers have havested your email address from the net and are using it to send spam. Its quite common and I am afraid there is nothing you can do about it..normaly they drop it in a few days. Pancake (6359)
