525751 2007-02-19 07:01:00 Hi, anyone used/own one of these? (www.vodafone.co.nz) I have a friend who is looking to go tiki-tour in a bus and wants to keep connected. The beauty of the device is he can use it with his desktop at home and laptop on tour.

If you have any experiences, your opinions would be gratefully rec'd.

525752 2007-02-19 07:39:00 Hey.

My Aunty and Uncle each have one, the first one they each got played up and had to be sent back after a short time (I am not sure of the exact time though), the most recent was 3 weeks ago, but since then they have had no problems, and it connects at a reasonable speed at an area out of the way

525753 2007-02-19 10:01:00 Set one up for a customer the other day. They went this way as they have no phone line in the house.
All went smoothly and now just acts like a dial-up connection (prefer it better this way rather than using the Vodafone software)
Only problem is if you're not in a 3G coverage area you will only get dial-up speeds.

525754 2007-02-19 19:23:00 I am on the Vodafone Data plan (Via mobile rather than vodem)
Best to check the coverage map on Vodafone's site if traveling, some (too darn many) areas have no vodafone coverage at all. Many major centers have G3 which is OK, dialup speed for the rest.

525756 2007-02-19 21:37:00 Set one up last week for a friend. First one faulty. Technical support OK
Check that you have the latest software 7.? available on the vodafone website. Maps of coverage available there too. Website is saying G3 Coverage by end of March
Vodafone Mail is slow on dial up.
A good option for those without wiring or who rent and don't want to put it in.
When price comes down, and G3 more available will be a valuable asset when travelling etc.

525757 2007-02-20 04:05:00 I don't need or want one. Then don't post , if you have nothing of importance to add to the thread do NOT post in it :badpc: The_End_Of_Reality (334)
525758 2007-02-21 01:08:00 I've been using a Vodem for a few weeks now. On the whole I'd recommend them. I'm only able to get a GPRS connection here (Cambridge) so it's only about as fast as a good dial-up connection speed. But I'd have to say, as a long term caravan dweller (no phone line available) that it's way cool being able to be online again :-) Rod J (451)
525759 2007-02-21 03:08:00 I consider a Vodem to be the Windows ME of wireless broadband. It's very buggy, but some people don't care. :p pcuser42 (130)

You can say that from actually using one then?
