525247 2007-02-16 18:11:00 What is the best road map book to carry in the car? Our old Shell map book is getting dated. Since it is not spiral bound it is thin and fits nicely in the pocket behind the passenger seat. Our local Shell station only has the spiral bound KiwiMaps - same with Books n More, Caltex, and a local bookshop. AA had no maps on display although I did not ask as it was too busy at the time.

Suggestions? No, I do not want to print anything from the web!

525248 2007-02-16 18:25:00 We have just replaced ours too :)
Kiwi Maps, North (or South) Island Complete Drivers Atlas with Indexed Country Roads.
Spiral bound so lays flat when open but it isn't very big.

The named rural roads were what we were looking for and it has Inner city enlargements.
No idea where you would get a flat one.

525249 2007-02-16 19:01:00 Thanks Sue. I did like the Kiwi Maps - N Island. It did a good job on the country roads in our area. Yes, spiral binding does allow the book to open flat but I find that over the years the covers start ripping at the wire spirals and the ends of the spirals catch on things. If there is nothing else available Kiwi Maps look OK except for the fact that for around $28 we only get the N Island. Strommer (42)
525250 2007-02-16 19:11:00 I think you only have two choices - Wises and Kiwimaps. The spiral bind feature is a plus - if yours start to wear prematurely then you're obviously mishandling it. Greg (193)
