525059 2007-02-16 03:37:00 Dear all. Yesterday I have just acquired a new Nokia cellphone from Hill and Stewart. After charging the battery, I have been told that I need to first activate my cellphone number by phoning 777. I then tried doing so, but there is no where in the menu that offers me to activate the phone, which lead to me thinking that the phone has been setup for me already. After that, I have been instructed (from the manual) to choose and enter a four-digit PIN (for Vodafone service). This would be done when I make my first call (vodafone.co.nz). When I make the call to my house phone, I automatically get connected to the phone (but the line was busy because I was on the Internet). I then tried calling my mom's cellphone, but the same thing occurred, in which I get connected to the cellphone.

After that, frustratingly, I tried to contact Vodafone in order to resolve this issue on 0800 800 021, but the irony part is that I need to enter the Vodafone PIN for my cellphone first before I can proceed; I have tried using my cellphone's PIN, but to no avail. Their e-mail "contact us" service also requires me to key in the PIN.

Does anyone have any other suggestions that may possibly resolve this problem that I am facing now? Anyway, I am going to Hill & Stewart tomorrow morning to find out where the fault lies.

Cheers :)

The Vodafone pin should be the pin number for your cellphone number ad not the mobile pin.

When you bought your sim card do remember having a 4 digit pin number?

You activate the cellphone over the phone using your cellphone & when you’re on the phone with vodafone you choose and enter a four-digit PIN.

525062 2007-02-16 05:23:00 Stu is correct. You don't need a pin to talk to customer service. pine-o-cleen (2955)

The thing is that, I am required to activate the number by first calling 777. When I called them for the first time, it brings me straight to the normal customer service menu.

Ninjabear, I am aware that the PIN for Vodafone is not the same as cellphone PIN. No, the staff didn't give me the PIN for the particular SIM Card.

Cheers :)

Listen to the options on that menu & you should get an option for activating your phone or somthing like that, I think (it has been a few months since I have done it when I get my first phone)
