524269 2007-02-13 01:26:00 Hi guys

For those of you who saw my thread on the dollar value of a Flybuys point.

It seems that we all agree that a Flybuys point is worth roughly 20 cents.

Well for the last few years I have been a keen user of Shell for my petrol as I liked to buy $ 20 worth of fuel once a week or so and get 1 Flybuys point (it all helps).

But now 2 things have changed this

1 They have quietly changed it so that you have to buy 20 LITRES of petrol to get a flybuys point. Which is a pain as you can no longer say $ 20 worth please.

2 With the fuel dockets from say my New World I can get a 4 cents a litre discount from say BP. (its best to buy $50 of groceries so you can get 2 Flybuys points from New World)

The other day I bought $20 woth of petrol from BP with a 4c Fuel docket. I was charged $19.44. So I saved 56 cents which is far more than the 20 cents worth of Flybuys that I would have got from Shell !

Just thought I'd let you know in case you were still asking for $ 20 of petrol at Shell.

PS I think the fuel dockets thing is a have, we would all be better off if we did not use them and they dropped the price instead.

524270 2007-02-13 02:12:00 I purchased $65 petrol at a Shell "Lackofservicestation" last week. I got 6c/litre off with a Supermarket voucher "and Flybuys points as well"

I agree. It's all a big con but if I have a fuel docket in my wallet at the time I will use it even if it doesn't really save much. Not from our local Mobil though - their fuel price is higher than all the others in the first place.

What I find amusing is that when it was announced that the price of fuel was going up a few cents per litre everyone would rush out to fill up their tanks. Now no one gets excited about the opportunity to save a few cents per litre.

524272 2007-02-13 04:40:00 FWIW - I believe Shell will give you an extra 10 FB points if 100 litres are purchased in one month. Thats their compensation for cutting down points per $$. Strommer (42)
524273 2007-02-13 07:44:00 Previously $20 (13.89 litres) is 1 FB point.
Now it is 20 litres ($28.80) to get a FB point.
No wonder these companies are always reporting profits by the billions.
It's OK to make profit. To make profits of $20-40 billion a year .............

524274 2007-02-17 21:13:00 Thanks guys

But I can no longer be bothered with Shell to get my Flybuys as Taurus points out you now have to spend $ 28.00 to get a Flybuys point that is really worth about 20 cents (in cash redemption value)

And as Steve L points out you can get extra points but it is actually only 4 bonus points for 100 litres (according to their yellow flier) and for the average guy who just drives to work each day it is not worth worrying about if you have bought 100 litres during the month to qualify.

So for me I will be going with New World $ 50 worth of groceries for 2 Fly Buys points and a Fuel voucher for 4 cents a litre which at say $ 20 worth of petrol will save me 60 cents.

I was wondering how you were getting your fuel vouchers and flybuys at New World AND using the fuel vouchers at Shell... as New World gives vouchers for BP...
