2008-12-19 04:53:00 | ****Speedtest.net not accurate*** Actually rather than just rant, I thought I would show the OP a few images. This speedtest was run at 5.27PM today i82.photobucket.com I immediately started 5.28PM a REAL download after that test knowing this source is fast enough to max my connection. i82.photobucket.com If I was an end user who believed in the pretty little graphs Speedtest provides and had no idea about hops or the fact that source Server are load balanced and cannot provide enough throughput to max my connection, I might think my ISP cable connection was only performing at less than 4MB which of course is nonsense. So yea Speedtest less than 4MB and real life downloads at 10MB(as long as the source can handle it), makes speedtest worthless. Somtimes Speedtest will chuck out 6 or 8MB and rarely 10MB, BUT I can 99% of the time download at 10Mb in real life download tests. This has been reported by other in many forums also.

2008-12-19 08:05:00 | 6 Gig a month - Yikes  Mind you if you are not downloading a lot then I spose it Ok. Telstra - we have 80 Gig a month - OK cheating a bit - running a Business from home and a lot of that is work related - at least 30 -50 Gig a month. i'm the only one who really downloads anything so 6gig is enough for now :D

2008-12-19 10:07:00 | i'm the only one who really downloads anything so 6gig is enough for now :D Yeah I was on telstra 10 gig plan - but running a business was going over that within 1.5 weeks normally - then they offered the 80 Gig at the same price- and faster ---- First question --OK how much more - answer - nothing, same price :banana Why wouldn't someone take it  And the speed test --- The telstra tech who changed my cable modem a while back when it turned turtle did a different speed test - one telstra has - (Never did see the password he entered) but it was accurate and not like the one offered here.

2008-12-19 18:52:00 | Don't know what Seedy does thats so affected by poor old torrent users, but in our set-up at home we all get great speed (3 lappies on wireless ) until our son starts up his wired xp system which seems to hog the bandwidth. Sorted it out by unplugging him. Just starting a random d/l and saying "thats my speed" is really hit and miss. We use a site in England to transfer files and its blisteringly fast, at any time of day or night, where other d/l's we do can creep along. there seems to be no reason to it all. Oh..we're with Slingshot..their customer service is still rubbish but we haven't been getting the outages we used to and I'm pretty happy with the speed etc. First ISP to offer me optical though....

2008-12-19 18:58:00 | We're with Rural Link (http://www.rurallink.co.nz/) and we're on there home plan (512 down 256 up 1GB a week). However the service does break down every now and then, and it usually breaks down for 4 - 5 days. The speed is constantly 512 down though, however 1gb a week is a bit hard to work with. | davidmmac (4619) | |
2008-12-19 18:58:00 | I dont do anything. I dont do P2P, torrents, or play games online (havent got any anyway) not worth it. I wouldnt waste my time (or bandwidth), using torrents As I said the speed (downloading files) is fast enough until (I would say) the torrent users are online. Since, everything was fine when I joined Xnet. It started going downhill, when Xnet started this torrent plan
