Thanks Well, often I have seen passengers carried just this way and without seat belts while the Police stand idly by. I see this at every parade where they have floats. Have a feeling that there would be a speed restriction on the vehicle though. |

| 525717 | 2007-02-19 23:42:00 | Riding on the back of a ute/truck is something once considered quite normal in rural areas. If kids were involved, adults held on to them. But that was then & this is now... I'm talking about days when not everyone had a car - or two - & the vehicles were usually incapable of speeding, anyway. Nowadays we have many laws "to save us from ourselves." but manage to kill each other on the roads in greater numbers. I'd be amazed if it was legal now - with so much cottonwool added to the rules. (Though you get used to it. I felt slightly naked recently on a minibus trip to North Otago. Kept feeling instinctively for the non-existent seatbelt. Rather amusing, considering some of the transport I've ridden on - rather than in - in the past) |

| 525719 | 2007-02-20 08:07:00 | its actually not that bad. worse thing is a side on impact accident or rolling over and being flung off the ute. head on accident you simply get crushed up against the the headboard which you are sitting against. mind you you also tend to FREEZE riding oon the back too ;) You have such a bad interpretation of crash physics its scary :eek: hmm what were seatbelts invented for? :annoyed: |
