| 525638 | 2007-06-07 04:27:00 | I've been looking at these plans myself, and doing some digging on Wireless Nation. From what I can find, the reason why wireless nation are so cheap compared to other ISPs is because they're selling the service at/below cost, with the hope that they can get a large enough customer base to make the service economic, while adding high value services (VOIP) where they can generate some extra revenue. From what I can gather they dont have their own gateways (i.e. fibre connections to APE, Telecom's Global gateway and other providers like Asia Netcom), but rather are buying shared bandwidth of another ISP. My concerns with choosing them as an ISP are; a. What happens when they run out of money, do they go bankrupt or hike the cost of their plans considerably? b. Whats the quality of their shared upstream bandwidth provider? Sure IPStar delivers 2M down 1M up, but if their upstream provider doesnt have adequate capacity then the service will be crap, and when youre paying $20 per GB you want a decent service. c. If the quality of service isnt as advertised can I disconnect without paying the expensive disconnection fee? Does anyone here currently have an IPStar connection with Wireless Nation (or another ISP)? If so how do you find the service? Cheers Liam |

| 525639 | 2007-12-16 05:05:00 | I have been a customer of Wireless Nation for a year. Early on, they were slow at times and I am a high speed user so was disappointed for a few months. For the last few months, they have gotten their act together and they are reliably delivering very fast connections. Very impressive. I speedtest against a US site because I am dependent on my local connection and the international gateways to deliver rapid large file downloads consistently. Download speedtests from the States are 1Mbps plus usually and never lower than 500kbps for the last few months. I couldn't recommend anyone higher than Wireless Nation based on my experience of one other satellite provider and a rural wireless provider experience. They consistently deliver rapid broadband without dropouts. The cost of install is disappointing. They are definitely shooting themselves in the foot on that one. From a satisfied customer. |
