525015 2007-02-16 04:36:00 Are we talking USB pen drives / sticks ?

Well.......technically not. Same thing though. Plug it into a USB port and transfer data.
Just need bigger pockets....

525016 2007-02-16 05:17:00 Oh dear . They put out the bait and you bite . You look at their website . It costs you nothing, and presumably you often look at websites of computer companies, without buying anything .

Well it costs me bandwidth from my internet connection, and my time .

I can think of much worse advertising practices . Every week I find in my letterbox circulars containing pictures of voluptuous ladies wearing scanty underwear . NOWHERE IN THOSE CIRCULARS DO THEY SAY THAT THE ATTRACTIVE "ACCESSORIES" DON'T COME WITH THE UNDERWEAR .

WAAAH :( It's not fair .

If it was a TV ad, that advertised a Free USB drive, and it didn't state on the ad that you have to buy $800 dollars of products to qualify, then they could definately be pulled up on it . I am not sure how NZ advertising law applies to internet ads, maybe they haven't been tested . Obviously this company has excluded thsi from the internet ad, solely becuase they knew that people would then visit their website to learn more, only to be disappointed that they then have to buy $800 of over priced products .

It appears the ads that PC world are displaying is part of doubleclick . net which looks to be a US company, so maybe they don't need to comply with NZ advertising laws .

In my mind it's a teaser ad...It makes you find out more about the company and their products..It did say special conditions apply. If it had on the banner
Free usb drive when you spend XX$. People who are going to buy that amount
might only click on the banner. Where the way they have done it, it draws more people in.

Not misleading in my view

But did you go out and buy any Graham . . . for your "wife" of course ( )

Next time you will be walking around Kmart or the Warehouse and suddenly you will be reminded of these shocking images in the flyers . The question will you buy something . . .

Eggsackly, it is like a store having a big sign in its window saying SALE 50 percent off (special conditions apply), and then going into the store and finding that only a few things are 50% percent off, and the rest is only 5% off . Oh thats right, thats illegal . I see they have now removed that ad .

Certainly I was annoyed that you would have to buy $800 of stuff just to get one of those 'free' products . I thought maybe $200, as those cheaper brand drives only cost about $20, so what they are offering is effectively a 2 . 5% discount off $800, which is nothing . You would expect a better discount than that of you are spending that sort of money .

525020 2007-02-16 12:09:00 isn't the whole point of a banner ad to create traffic for their site?

dont' like it? don't click it and/or get adblock (and firefox if you're an IE user going "what's adblock?")

i always marvel at how people/companies offer "free" goodies provided you pay them for it

525021 2007-02-16 18:00:00 I learned years ago that no one will give you something for nothing . Adverts have been around for years trying the same ruse .
If I see "FREE" boldly displayed on a web page I go no further .
Same applies to "freeware" . If it was the effort to download it wouldn'f be free .
Same applies to a magazine, that shall be nameless . Gives a free DVD with a free 60 day trial of MS Office . Then after you load the CD you are told you must load Hotmail to activate the gift . Then presumably collect spam for years to come .

NOTHING IS FOR NOTHING .
