I am a student of the music of the 1940's/50's. Big bands.

Didn't know about her earlier tour, but realise she'd have been in her prime as a star then.
The 1940s big band name which comes first to my mind is Glen Miller - of whom I'm a fan. In the Mood & String of Pearls in particular still get airtime.

524639 2007-02-22 08:01:00 Thank you all so much for your contributions. Most interesting and helpful. I not only learnt the name of one tune, but two. Thanks, in particular, to you, Jack. I have been recording programmes for The Radio Reading Service for about 13 years and when I need some help, as now, it is always great to know that there is someone out there glad to help. The name of my programme is, "It happened In New Zealand" and features historical stories of New Zealand. You may like to listen. The Radio Reading Service broadcasts from Levin on 1602AM which can be heard over most of the country in the evenings, or on 3935kHz in the shortwave band which can be heard over most of the country day and night. "It Happened In New Zealand" is on Friday at 8pm and Saturday at 1230am and 10am. The story on Uncle Scrim starts at the last Friday in March. Hope that you have time to listen. You may find many other programmes of interest. Why not have a listen or even visit their website for a programme list: www.radioreading.org/

Thanks, everyone!!! Roscoe.
