524315 2007-02-14 09:08:00 [QUOTE=Sick Puppy;525096]I was quite happy with the phone and plan I'm on at the mo, but every now and again it plays up, and since it's at least three years old (secondhand for $100- bargain!) I figure%

It should've say what brand and model are you currently using?

524316 2007-02-14 09:22:00 A Nokia 6610- the one without the camera- picked it up in Napier when Cash Converters closed down for $100. As I said, works fine (not hard on phones), but every now and again just turns off, and buttons are starting to stick. I clean it every once in a while, but I figure its' gotta be at least three years old, and phones don't tend to last that long! Sick Puppy (6959)
524317 2007-02-15 10:19:00 Actually Ninjabear, there is something you may be able to help me with- the specifications for the V3x indicate it can only take a 512Mb card, but both the vodafone shop and the Motorola national call centre say it can take a 1Gb card.

Is it meant to take a 512Mb card, or can it take a 1Gb card but sacrifice speed?
Sick Puppy (6959)
524318 2007-02-15 11:04:00 No I don't think it supports 1GB.512MB is the maximum.Any further the mobile might not recognize the mobile or transfer data to the memory card at a extremely slow speed Ninjabear (2948)
524319 2007-02-15 11:06:00 How about a Motorola K1

I manage to sell one online.Costed me around $550NZ to buy.Vodafone sells like $999NZ .So expensive....
or do want to have a 3G Mobile?

524320 2007-02-15 19:57:00 Thanks, but I got my phone this morning! As I said before, my phone is fine (bar the occasional snafu), but the offer of a new more advnced phone for nothing was too tempting to pass up!

Thanks though Ninjabear for the heads up though re: offers and pricing though- will bear ya in mind when I can actually afford a decent one! (like when the N91 get's its crap sorted out! lol).

Having said that, I read in another forum (geekzone I think) that one guy's new phone was in fact a unit returned from another person  :illogical  Any way I can tell whether my phone is one of these?

I remember Nokia and Motorola mobile have a life span display timer thingy.

It shows how long the mobile has been used for. There's a menu in motorola that tells you this information and for Nokia mobiles you type in a few numbers in the menu to display this information.

I remember searching thru google for all these keys which corresponds to different things popping up on a nokia mobile like for example *#000# is to display the firmware version

N91 is kinda bulky and if you do think about N91.Think about N93i instead.Lol.

524322 2007-02-16 00:30:00 Sweet, thanks for that- will have a tinker when I get home and put it all together! :D

As for N91, I figure the new versions will have come out by the time I can afford a decent one!

524323 2007-02-19 07:01:00 Bump, had a play with the phone and it's alright- bit different to Nokia, but nice to use . . . Now I jut have to buy the go faster bits , so are there any recommended shops to buy gear in wellie/ online?

Vodafone's markups are extortionate ($60 for a data cable I can buy for $20 in DSE), and only one semi decent case on Trademe . . . mini-cards seem to be much of a muchness (1Gb cards are about $30, any suggestions re: make? Vodafone's are about $200  ) .

So, any ideas anyone? Cheers!
