730683 2008-12-18 20:34:00 In terms of bang for buck, which of these would you say would be the better buy?

ATHLON64 X2 5200+ BRISBANE 2.7GHZ c1com.co.nz (HSF: Need some recommendations)

ATHLON64 X2 6000+ WINDSOR 3.0GHZ c1com.co.nz (HSF: Stock, or MAYBE this: c1com.co.nz)

Now, if I get the 2nd one it is less likely I will be able to afford a decent cooler, and if I get the 1st one I should have enough money to get a nice cooler.

So, which would be better assuming I am overclocking. Also, I need a recommendation as to a good CPU cooler. Thanks!

730684 2008-12-18 21:01:00 Neither, Get an Intel.

But if you have to, then the 6000+, and just use the stock cooler.

Sadly, an Intel won't fit in my motherboard

730686 2008-12-18 21:32:00 Yeah 6000+ with stock cooler is fine. Don't try and OC it though, the 6000+ doesn't enjoy more than a 10% OC.

I put a 6000+ and 3Gb RAM in a PC just the other day, it hummed along really nicely.

730687 2008-12-18 21:34:00 Yep go for the 6000+. It should be a nice speed boost for you :) LiquidSolidity (1589)
730688 2008-12-18 21:40:00 Interesting....is that the original Windsor core with a die shrink?.....3ghz out of the box, I remember trying to clock windsor to 3ghz....it was a struggle... SolMiester (139)
730689 2008-12-18 21:43:00 Yep, I believe so. I had a mate with a 5200+, he could OC his better than mine. I got mine to run at 3.6ghz but it was never stable, 3.3 was the best you could realisticly do, at least with my limited knowledge of OC'ing.

I think the 6000+ had a decent factory OC on it already, and its probably 'locked'?
