| 730647 | 2008-12-18 10:01:00 | Got a Dell Inspiron 1525 lappy with Vista HP installed. Will not bootup and hangs at the Vista loading page. Hangs in Safe Mode and system restore. Resorted to doing a format and reinstall from the Repair Computer option from within F8 and hangs at formatting the drive. Doing a restart shows nothing has been formatted so that did nothing. I have tested the drive and it reported OK. I have access to command prompt and just tried chkdsk and it hangs! I can access the hard drive OK as I have backed up the clients data. When I was qiven this the screen brightness was set to very low in the Bios so I increased this. Made me think someone been in playing with settings so restored to default settings but still no go. Any command options to try to fix this issue? |

| 730650 | 2008-12-18 11:30:00 | Seatools found no errors? That's weird, cause usually chkdsk crashing/hanging means a seriously bad bad sector. Try defragging it, a defrag might help with any bad sectors. Boot into a linux live Cd if you have one, or create a UBCD4win. It requires a Windows Xp CD but if you don't have another desktop to connect the HDD to then that will be your only option left. We can post instructions here when needed. For the Defrag program I recommend Defraggler, Auslogics Disk Defrag, and JkDefrag Good Luck:thumbs: Blam |

| 730651 | 2008-12-19 04:04:00 | Problem sorted. Plugged the drive into into a desktop and straight away did an automatic chkdsk. Found errors and I did another manual one as well. Put the drive back in laptop, told Vista to do a system repair and away it went. Strange that Seatools didn't find any errors as it is normally very good. Thanks |
