730540 2008-12-18 02:50:00 On my old laptop, I was able to record stereo mix and microphone at the same time; i.e., if I was singing into a microphone and music was playing through my Winamp or iTunes, I could record both through Windows SOund Recorder (or Audacity, etc). If I was on Skype, I could play sounds and talk through the mic and both could be heard simultaneously.

But since I got my old laptop, I haven't been able to this. And I don't know how to set it up, since it was automatic on my old one. How can I arrange this? I have Windows XP Service Pack Three. I have NVIDIA HDMI Audio and RealTek High Definition Audio.

730541 2008-12-18 05:23:00 I dont know if this is what youre talking about. (Or if its on your system)

BUT, if I run Realtek HD sound effect manager, in control panel, then go to the mixer tab / click on the icon that looks like a spanner, and tick enable playback multi-streaming. It creates another entry (Realtek HD Audio 2nd output) under control panel sounds / audio tab. (Under default device)

And if I click on record (same tab as above, under playback, the same spanner icon) and tick enable recording multi-streaming, it creates another entry (mic in at front panel (pink) under sound recording in the audio tab

I am also using HDMI Audio, so this maybe what youre after

730542 2008-12-18 06:52:00 I don't appear to have the "playback multi-streaming" option. Here are the stats for my RealTek HD.

Audio Driver Version: 5.10.0.5636
DirectX Version: DirectX 9.0
Audio Controller: HD Audio
Audio Codec: ALC268

730543 2008-12-18 07:12:00 Hmm whats the brand/model of this laptop? Speedy Gonzales (78)
730544 2008-12-18 07:32:00 It's a CyberPower PC...relatively small company out of CA that allows you to customize your PC. My specs look like this:

Intel Core 2 Duo CPU
P8600 @ 2.40 GHz
1.58 GHz, 1.99 GB of RAM

730548 2009-02-21 02:48:00 Hi Woohoo5241

Think I can sort this out . To do what you require the Stereo Mix must be enabled .

Be aware most modern laptops have their Stereo Mix disabled by the manufacturers because of copyright concerns .

PLAN A

1 . Double click on the speaker icon in the Task Bar by the clock .

2 . MASTER VOLUME BOX now appears .

3 . Click OPTIONS .

4 . Select PROPERTIES .

5 . Select the input from the MIXER DEVICE drop box .

6 . If necessary, select the RECORDING button .

7 . Tick the STEREO MIX BOX . If there is none, your computer has it disabled .
Goto PLAN B

8 . Click OK .

9 . Close RECORDING CONTROL BOX

10 . Job Done!!

PLAN B

Download and install VIRTUAL CABLE ( . muzychenko . net/eng/vac . html" target="_blank">software . muzychenko . net) . This is not free but there is a trial version, try it .
