730512 2008-12-18 00:06:00 Hi guys and hoping you can help? I made the mistake of posting this, on Trade Me, and all I got was smart axx answeres. I have updated my Mozilla Firefox to the latest version, 3.0.5. Now when it's starts up it goes to en-us.www.mozilla.com I have my home page set at About:Blank. I have used Firefox, for years, and do know how to set the options, but can't stop this one. :droolThanks, Ian. ianhnz (4263)
730513 2008-12-18 00:10:00 Tools>Options.

Under 'When Firefox Starts', change dropdown list to 'Show a Blank page' then click OK.

The What's new page only shows (or only should show) once.

730514 2008-12-18 02:05:00 Yep, done that. On Tools/Options, When Firefox starts show a blank page, and Home page about:Blank. What I had before and didn't change with update... ianhnz (4263)
730515 2008-12-18 09:47:00 There should be a 'runonce' flag which isn't being set (or reset). Google shows heaps of references and solutions to this problem in IE but I couldn't find any answer for FF. Seems like you are unique!!

Good luck.

730516 2008-12-18 18:17:00 Thanks, linw. Yes it's a real pain. Tried to reset my start page, to different www sites, but when I reset it still the same problem. I remembered I had this problem, sometime ago. I had to uninstall, clean out registry and then reinstall. Ment I lost all the bookmarks, passwords, etc. Don't wana do that again. Even tried about:config, to reset start page. Hoping someone can help. ianhnz (4263)
730517 2008-12-19 03:21:00 OK, think I have it . I was trying to find a registry entry but then looked at about:config and typed 'startup' into the filter box . Mine has 6 entries come up . This entry seems to be the key:-

browser . startup . page and an integer value

Value 0 is your startup page, 1 is Mozilla home page and 2 is the whats new page . I would expect yours to be set to 2 . I have no idea why it isn't being changed to 0 though .

Let's know what you find .

730518 2008-12-19 03:46:00 Hm, I had a problem once where Firefox wasn't saving any modifications to my bookmarks just because of a setting in about:config that randomly got stuck. It could be similar, let's hope the one linw posted helps.

If you do have to do a completely clean install, though, you can use Firefox's bookmark manager/organizer to export your bookmarks as a file, then import it on the new copy. I don't know if there's any way to save your password list, but at least you can backup your bookmarks that way.

730519 2008-12-19 04:31:00 Thanks guys. Tried all that and still goes to their website. Not sure what else, to do? Ian:badpc::badpc: ianhnz (4263)
730520 2008-12-19 04:38:00 You might want to back-up all your bookmarks, history, preferences ect and completely un-install FF and re-install it.

Use this to back everything up: http://mozbackup.jasnapaka.com/

Before you do that, try asking help on Firefox live-chat: support.mozilla.com
