731483 2008-12-22 04:07:00 Does your Internet work such as browsing etc through the Wireless? Chilling_Silence (9)
731484 2008-12-22 04:53:00 Yes all works EXCEPT my admin log in.I now think it could be to do with the last update.
I remember another problem years ago but can not remember the solution.

731485 2008-12-22 04:57:00 You could try:
- open terminal and tail the syslog
- retry the update program and see what's in the syslog

or perhaps try update from the command line (apt-get), probably best to hunt around the ubuntu forums for suggestions.

731486 2008-12-22 05:07:00 It appears I have lost admin log in because I changed the name of my computer but I can not remember what it was before. If I sudo su I get a long pause then,
sudo: unable to resolve host mainframe-
desktop

731487 2008-12-22 05:21:00 Are you able to use "sudo" on it's own:
eg. sudo ls

731488 2008-12-22 05:32:00 No I get unable to resolve host.I appear to be ok with sudo su and I think I have to
get the mainframe- out of my /etc/hostname/
kjaada (253)
731489 2008-12-22 05:42:00 How about:

sudo hostname <my-new-hostname>

and also edit your hosts file:

sudo vi /etc/hosts
(or whatever editor you feel comfortable with)

and manually change/remove the entry you want

731490 2008-12-22 05:43:00 Problem solved:
gedit /etc/hostname/ removed the "mainframe bit and then a restart
Thanks for offered help.
