526573 2007-02-20 20:35:00 My dearly loved Microsoft optical mouse is used on a generic mousemat from DSE. This mat is supposed to be suitable for both optical and ball mouses. But over the year or so use the silicon coated feet on the mouse have lost their lubricosity (is that a word?). So I got out some talcum powder from a container of Johnson's Baby Powder and sprinkled it lightly over the mat. Result? A nice smooth gliding surface. Now I can snipe my enemies again with unerring accuracy. Greg (193)
526574 2007-02-20 20:49:00 I don't even use a mousemat anymore. Spose I should - it would save the wear on my desk surface! Tukapa (62)

Lubricity would be the word you are thinking of, but it doesn't really apply here as it is usually associated with a liquid lubricant, though the expression 'solid lubricant' is also seen. Plain old 'friction' is the word to use.

526578 2007-02-20 21:54:00 Sometimes the feet just need a scrape with your fingernail. That's what I used to do. Then I started wiping them with meths soaked tissue. Both helped briefly. But the talc has done the trick for me. I think this is mainly because the mat surface has microscopicall indentations and the talc fills in the holes. Dunno really, but as I say, it's working pretty well. Greg (193)
526579 2007-02-20 22:19:00 microscopicall = microscopic :nerd: Greg (193)

526581 2007-02-20 23:25:00 Greg, what on earth makes you think grown-ups would have Johnsons talcum powder around the house?

Silicon spray would be a much more *cough* adult thing to use, but I'm thinking you would now end up with an icky mess much like Play Do :yuck:

PS scraping anything with your fingernails is :yuck: :yuck: :yuck: I generally spit on 'em and wipe them with my shirt

526582 2007-02-20 23:34:00 You can buy new mouse feet.
ut I don't find them a problem, the surface of the mat gets up, worm I suppose is the word. But those plastic chopping boards from the Warehouse $1.99 work well.
