527171 2007-03-12 23:22:00 So I dropped it off exactly two weeks ago today. Figured it should be enough time for them to have looked into anything before I start bugging them...

Rang Mechanic A today, spoke with the manager.
He advised they hadnt done anything, had no idea what was to be done to the car. Said the rear sub-frame etc hadnt been touched by them during repairs, nor the ABS wiring at any stage.
Advised they'd replaced the Left-front suspension, two new rims on the left-hand side.
Didnt say what they had done with the left-rear trailing (steering?) arm, as it was collapsed when I got it back in November. Unsure if its still currently bent.
He said the car had been in another accident since (kerbed) and that insurance were trying to say they would not fix the wheel bearing, nor the front-left suspension (leaking) because of it.
Also, he stated when returning the car at the end of January that the left-rear rim was bent (the new one) slightly and not perfectly straight, but still drivable.

Would kerbing cause the front-left suspension to leak, if its brand spankin new and done less than 1,000KM's? Would the fact the left-rear trailing arm is bent and driven on for less than 1,000KM's cause the left-rear rim to get bent slightly? To do any diagnosis of ABS, would the wiring have to be un-mounted, or would the 'ABS diagnosis machine' more likely just have to be connected somewhere to the vehicle?

Now Im more than prepared to put up pix on here to show the kerbing damage.. incredibly minor to say the least! Would kerbing it really cause that damage?

Would I have to presume that in the case of the rear sub-frame etc that its been in a previous accident and replaced by somebody before I owned it?

He initially said that the mechanical repairs alone were going to cost $6800 when insurance first declined the claim, would replacing the front / rear left suspension as well as two rims (Cost approx $360ea) cost that much? Or has he done other work to it and not told me?

527172 2007-03-12 23:39:00 I told you you should have taken it to that other mechanic.
Get it back before they get even dodgier.

527173 2007-03-12 23:55:00 Im getting it back ASAP

They wouldnt let me take it elsewhere, otherwise insurance said they'd just drop the claim and wouldnt touch the car, and that it HAD to go back to Mechanic A.

But is it possible that Id been driving around with the car in less-than-100% condition before the accident? The car certainly handles a LOT worse since I got it back in Nov... like HEAPS worse...

Im thinking this would make for some good TV on Fair-Go... also thinking it might be worth just trying to sell on TradeMe with a $1 reserve :(

527174 2007-03-13 01:18:00 It makes you want to introduce the shop to Mr . Smith & Mr . Wesson . . . but we don't do that any more .

Sounds like you need a third party arbitrator for this one chill . . . . .

I like to scream and yell at people who believe they know things mechanical . . but alas, I am a little far away . . . . although that could be ($$) arranged .

I think you are being tattooed and nailed . . . and I personally wouldn't take the insurance saying it's gotta go back to mechanic "A", when he was the problem all along .

It looks like a hidden and progressive damage claim is what's needed, and I hope NZ has ways to deal with shady insurance companies and their "field reps" . . . I smell collusion with the repair shop myself .

Somebody's getting a plain brown envelope .
