| 527136 | 2007-02-23 02:04:00 | I would go for Toyota for reliability. I would totally avoid Mitzi's - did you know their management were nearly jailed because they hid problems in their cars? As a result I would never trust one. I have a subaru legacy, and its a good vehicle, highly equiped, which means there is always something to go wrong. I would get a Subaru Forrester next, gets great reviews. Arn't older diesels expensive to get upgraded for the new diesel mix? |

| 527137 | 2007-02-23 04:55:00 | Arn't older diesels expensive to get upgraded for the new diesel mix? the new deisel caused the some of the old seals to leak. however due to all the fuel screw ups previously a lot of those vechile allready had the seals done. makes you wonder if those fuel screw ups where actually planned so they didn't get an uproar when all those vechiles stufed up all at the same time. some very old vechiles don't have the modern type of seals and none are being made for those vechiles. so a lot of old but perfectly good tractors etc have had the seals go and you can't fix it. |

I'm curious about what's in Forrester reviews to make you prefer that..? |

The great State Of California tried this "amended" fuel for diesels a few years back . It was monikered: "CARB Diesel" [for: California Air Resources Board Diesel"] The bad ingredient was the alcohol they legislated into it by a closed-room legislative meeting one dark and stormy night . The Great State (don't laugh . . California seems to be on the cusp of almost everything "green" or "tree-hugging" and unfortunately has been followed by lemmings all the world over to new heights or cliff jumping) had to pay for all the damaged injectors, injection pumps and destroyed rubber-like hoses and assorted damage done by the non alcohol loving devices in the fuel systems . Here's the fun part . California found out in a class action suit that they would be financially responsible, and to mitigate the damages, placed advertisements on 2pt font in well-circulated (over 50,000 copies pressed/printed/distributed) newspapers that they had placed a deadline for owners of said damaged vehicles to have the Great State pay for the repairs . Just barely meeting the letter of the law of promulgation of information, the Great State got well off the hook for the majority of claims . . . who reads very fine print in The Miriam and Walter's Daily Shout and Composting News tabloid? Who even knew that it existed in the first place? Who even subscribed to it? Do Miriam and Walter even subscribe to their own tabloid? Well . . . all twenty or so vehicles that DID get repairs just got in by a squeak on the deadline . . the others ate **** . So . . over 2 million trucks, motor homes, big rigs and farm implements got Nada! Hopefully there's someone in your neck of the world who will rise up against this terrible situation . The citizens of NZ must rally bravely to this new onslaught of insidious bullying and retrograde and circumspect thinking in the form of this new fuel . They cannot declare all your older vehicles obsolete . . can they? Feed them cake . |

| 527142 | 2007-02-24 04:56:00 | alcohol in deisel....ewww. afaik the new deisel dosn't have added alchohol. they have simply reduced the sulphur content a fair bit. however its still not as good as europe etc. both NZ and Assuie have a reputaion of poor deisel. no idea why but people have noticed big differences in performance when useing fuel from different gas stations. |

| 527143 | 2007-02-24 05:21:00 | How old does an "older" diesel need to be to need upgrading for the new fuel? I've inherited a Toyota diesel ute. It's 1980s - loaned out at present & I don't remember the exact year. The repairs & new tyres needed for its last WoF cost close to what it's worth. Another $1000 would put it in the " Don't re-register" category. And that would be a pity, as its still a very useful workhorse. |

| 527144 | 2007-02-24 05:46:00 | what one has he got? has he driven the D4 ? A 1985 Nissan Datsun. Whats a D4 and he probably wouldn't care anyway. He only likes flat deck utes, things like 4WD and stuff don't come into it. Its done nearly as many Kms as my Toyota and recently he had the motor and injectors checked and its all fine. Its gutless on hills, no power steering, column change. The only moan he has is the cost now compared with petrol. |
