2007-02-26 00:23:00 | Im running Vista business very nicely on 1gig of ram, however i do think people should get 2 gigs since the OS idles at around 700megs.. if you use something like photoshop on top of that you would need more. Absolutely crazy and wasteful. Think of the power that consumes for a corporate with 1000s of computers.

2007-02-26 12:21:00 | Okay, I wont bore you with the gory details, but in comparison, my PC is: AMD Athlon Socket 754 3000+ 1GB RAM 128MB AGP 8x nVidia Ti4200 HDD's coming out my ears.. Game load times in Vista increased when compared with XP because some of them were using the SWAP file instead of RAM.. At work, my site currently has approx 250 PCs All are happily running XP with 1GB Ram (most have 1GB, some have 512MB) Just think, to buy another 1GB stick of RAM would cost AT LEAST $100+ (assuming the company I work for uses pricespy.. they dont, they use Dell) 250 PCs x $100 for another 1GB Ram each to prep them for Vista = $25,000 I get the feeling the regional manager wont be approving that any time soon :P The Dell website suggests 2GB Ram for Vista, sounds like they're a little more conservative than the IBM Consultant ;) Can somebody have a look in Vistas Task Manager and let me know a rough break-down of the memory usage? Honestly, every time Ive trialled a new release of Vista, Ive not actually looked to see what processes are using the most memory...

2007-02-26 12:29:00 | Just for the record, when installing Vista in a Virtual Machine, I couldnt proceed with installation on less than 384MB Ram. It would boot on slightly less upon completion, but was unbearably slow :( | Chilling_Silence (9) | |
2007-02-26 16:47:00 | I have 51 processes running and it tells me im using 30 percent of physical memory. My boot up time is around 15 to 20 seconds from power off. The most memory my pc uses to run vista is 680mbs. with 1,7gb of ram still leaves 1.07 gb left. | Hitech (9024) | |
2007-02-26 20:27:00 | Im curious to know on a process-by-process basis what it is thats using that 680MB of yours... Might hafta grab a 10GB HDD from an old xbox and put it on for a day or two just to find out :)
