526517 2007-06-12 12:00:00 Do you not think I'm capable of doing it?

Sorry Plod. I did not mean to say you could not. You may not want to though. For which I will not blame you.

And for any others like Jen, CS, and etc whom may feel left out I apologise.

I am almost certain that any person could do better.

526518 2007-06-12 12:16:00 Sorry Sweep, I don't build computers. A tech built my old PC back in 1998.

But what about your NEW box? I take it you use DOS 6.23 along with Win 3.11? on the old system unit.:dogeye:

And I still think you have a brain and can use same. All PedalSlammer seems to do is ask questions and then come up with answers.

And tell others.

Please note this post is very much tongue in cheek.

Still waiting for PedalSlammer to build whatever.

.

Well my new box is an iMac care of Apple via Magnum Mac with Parallels running XP Pro SP2 (for my old carry over PC stuff) on OS X 10.4
My old PC did get an upgrade back in about 2003 from Windows 98 to XP Home as well as 512MB RAM and an AMD chip and 40GB HD and a 19" monitor. The same tech who originally built it also did the upgrade.

I'm more of a production designer than a hardware builder.

526520 2007-06-15 07:32:00 Partly with the help of what's been posted in this thread I'm about to order this build from Ascent.

Any of you more knowledgeble guys/girls like to make any comments before the order gets placed.

I need it for general home use, no games, Vista ready - for the future if I have to

526521 2007-06-15 08:24:00 Well Brig, I can't see you getting very far with out a CPU, HDD, PSU and motherboard ... unless you already have them... The_End_Of_Reality (334)
526522 2007-06-15 11:07:00 Have you put computer parts together yet? Possibly get WinMacGuy, Metla or even me to do it. Any of us could do the job.... Metlas just an amateur ... just like me. He sends his computer to PJ for upgrades :p Myth (110)

526524 2007-06-19 05:04:00  Metla's "lets build a PC" thread has almost double the views that the forum rules does on the off topic forum..... go metla. wratterus (105)
526525 2007-06-19 12:15:00 I believe I can build a pc myself. There are a few questions that still needed to be asked. Is it cheaper to build a computer than buy a computer off manufacturers in New Zealand. Which type of power supply is needed to run an average high performance pc for games/entertainment. msnforum (11610)
526526 2007-06-19 19:13:00 Brig, yes that looks much better and will work together with pleanty of 'general home' power :D

msnforum, it is not hard to build a PC... there are many online tutorials and the component manuals help a fair bit, and yes, it is cheaper than branded PCs, but it is not that much cheaper if you buy online and they build it for you (depending on the place).

ATX is the type you will need as to the power ratting the PCs specs need to be seen as I am sure you have seen on this forum there has been a lot of talk about PSUs BTW Exermax is the only brand I will buy
