2008-12-19 18:40:00 | Try this as well. Dont know if it'll work in Vista, it should. This is from a WU newsgroup Now, open the registry editor. Start/Run key in regedit then click on OK or hit ENTER Navigate to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\wuauserv Look for a DeleteFlag value and, if it exists, right-click on it and select Delete. If that doesn't work try this Go to Start/Run and key in: net stop wuauserv Then click on OK or hit ENTER When the Automatic Updates service has stopped, use My Computer or Windows Explorer to navigate to the C:\Windows or C:\WINNT (if C:\Windows does not exist) folder. Rename the SoftwareDistribution folder to SDOLD Go to Start/Run and key in: net start wuauserv Then click on OK or hit ENTER

2008-12-19 23:06:00 | Try Dial a Fix, it usually fixes stubborn windows update problems:D Good Luck! Blam Is Dial A Fix available for Vista yet?

2008-12-20 01:25:00 | According to google it should be but could find no definitive proof | gary67 (56) | |
2008-12-20 02:10:00 | Dunno if Dial A fix works on Vista - YET. But try this -- Go to This page here (support.microsoft.com) - download the exe file for your version of Vista Once done, click start / in the search box type in CMD when it appears in the search results select it - <press enter> Roll up the sleeves :D and in the CMD box type in the following EXACTLY, pressing enter after each one: regsvr32 wucltux.dll regsvr32 wuaueng.dll regsvr32 wups2.dll regsvr32 wuapi.dll regsvr32 wudriver.dll regsvr32 wups.dll regsvr32 wuwebv.dll You should get a message pop up saying which ever one you typed in as successful - retry windows update. HINT: when typing in the above commands, once you have done it once, and after the pop up appears, hit the F3 key, and backspace the wxxxx.dll, leaving the gap, saves having to type in regsvr32 all the time. If it doesn't work go download This (support.microsoft.com) - then This (support.microsoft.com) if its still not working.

2008-12-20 03:03:00 | Nope, but compatibility mode works well Errrr it shouldn't as quoted from the designer of Dial a Fix Microsoft changed nearly everything Dial-a-fix is capable of fixing to the point that Dial-a-fix has to be rewritten from the ground up just for Vista So going by that - it cant fix whats not there.

2008-12-20 08:01:00 | OOPPS! forgot one; Try this- click start / run or start/ do a search for run Did that - some entries got errors though. net.exe stop wuauserv regsvr32.exe wuapi.dll regsvr32.exe wups.dll regsvr32.exe wuaueng.dll regsvr32.exe wucltui.dll <-- ERROR: "The module failed to load ... module could not be found" regsvr32.exe MSXML3.dll regsvr32.exe qmgr.dll <-- ERROR: "The module failed to load ... module could not be found" regsvr32.exe qmgrprxy.dll net.exe start wuauserv Also - did you look at that key Speedy said to delete Yup, looked at that - didn't exist. EDIT: I've been copying these entries into a .bat file and running that to save my copying and pasting lots of times - is that ok? If I can't get this resolved I might consider a reinstall - after all this install is only about 3 weeks old... some fun for Christmas week... :waughh:

2008-12-20 08:19:00 | Yup creating a bat file and putting those commands in it shouldn't be a prob. Thats what I do here
