526417 2007-04-10 05:43:00 Why has this thread stopped being a sticky?

Even I - with no plans to build & practically no comprehension of the video card stuff - find it interesting to dive into occasionally.

I realise the forum shouldn't have too many stickies, but as the thread about bounced PF1 emails relates to a problem now solved, couldn't that be allowed to die instead?

526418 2007-04-10 10:00:00 I agree, Escpecially as we are still going to get a constant stream of people wanting to know what the pick of current hardware is, I figured they could unsticky it when we create the next one, Lets Build a PC July 2007 Metla (12)

Might be time to sell a body part as well SolMiester ;) There are only two viable AGP options a 7600GS or X1950PRO and neither is particularly cost effective unless you intend to keep your system for a very long time.

526423 2007-04-13 08:17:00 I was thinking the X1950pro indeed @ around $390, hoping the monitoe sale will cover half! SolMiester (139)
526424 2007-04-16 08:04:00 With all this talk of GPUs, why is no one into the 8800 GTS? Am I missing something here? west (11903)
526425 2007-04-16 10:49:00 Umm its not available in AGP? SolMiester's motherboard uses the nForce3 chipset ;)

I'm holding out for the 8900GS and 8900GT, both look to offer a nice mid-point in the trade off between price and performance. I have seen them mention as the 8800GS and 8800GT either way they still seem rather nice!

526426 2007-04-16 11:25:00 The 8800 is far too expensive. This thread is all about getting things done to a good enough standard without going over the top & buying the best of everything.

The *600 in each series (ATI and Nvidia) tends to be the card that is closest to that description
