731317 2008-12-21 01:00:00 If anyone could help..

I have vista 32-bit SP1 Premium Home Edition.

My laptop is running Dual core 2.26ghz, 3gb ram - and has in excess of 200gb free space on the hard drive.

In the last couple of weeks i have noticed, when ever i open a program.. eg. excel, I explorer, google chrome. It lags , comes up with "not responding" then after 2 minutes the "not responding" disappears and its fine.

It mainly does it on start up, but also when it is the first time i use that program that day. It's not a biggie, but is rather annoying.

My disk optimization is 1%..:horrified

Any Ideas?????

Thanks in advance:D

Turn off Indexing for starters. Get CCleaner and run that. Runa antimalware apps too to make sure its clean.

Take all the clutter out of your startup as well.

731320 2008-12-21 21:08:00 I have left indexing on, because when I first get the laptop (2 months ago) it comes with it on, and I wasn't having those issues.

I ran Malware check took 1 hour and a half and no issues were found :(

My start up has nothing, except msn.

I have CC cleaner and run it on a regular basis.

I have a feeling - it might of removed some registry files that are causing the problem... but I don't really have a clue..

731321 2008-12-21 21:57:00 Certainly should be instant on a laptop like yours, how much virtual memory is set on the PC? (System + adavanced settings, 3.6Gb?)
Was there anything you changed or installed that might relate to the problem?
Also what impact would applying a restore to a month back have on you - noting that you don't lose current documents it's just a system restore ( but read up on it prior to doing it)

But NOW, after you have used it, it will be an issue.

731323 2008-12-21 23:04:00 Just in case ... check the properties of something that shows the problem and confirm nothing ticked in the compatabilities tab Ofthesea (14129)
731324 2008-12-21 23:29:00 Click start, in the search box type in CMD , when it appears RIGHT click it, select"Run As Administrator" - when the box opens type in sfc /scannow <press Enter> the system will scan for damaged files and repair any it finds.(will take some time)

Its more than likely damaged system files someplace - indexing will slow the PC down a bit, but I'd be surprised if thats the cause of the problem, one way to check is to disable indexing and see if it still does it.

731326 2008-12-22 04:54:00 So what did you do? Or did it just come right by itself? If so, then it can go wrong by itself too. mark c (247)
