730961 2008-12-19 06:34:00 Start it up, it loads, gets into windows for about 15 seconds then reboots, I can boot it in safe mode and it runs fine for a while, have checked with antivirus and spybot and only 1 trojan found.

I'm suspecting a virus or trojan, nothing un-toward in the processes though that I can see.

Any good apps for a sweep of the drive?:help:

730962 2008-12-19 06:41:00 Boot into safe mode / networking, then get trojan remover.

Direct link (www.simplysuponline.com)

Install update, then click on scan. Then select all options under utilities

730965 2008-12-19 15:48:00 Get the hard drive out and connect it to another PC, then scan with trojan remover and MalwareBytes Anti-Malware.

Or use a linux live CD/UBCD

730966 2008-12-20 03:41:00 Update

I removed the drive last night and installed it another pc and scanned it, only one trojan found and successfully removed, scanned with Avira & Malwarebites as well and no issues found .

Reinstalled the drive into the original pc and it's still booting and logging straight off .

I then booted in safe mode, recovery console and was about to make some changes to the drive when the pc shut down again .

Now it won't even restart, not a beep, all that runs is the fan on the power supply and on one occasion the drive did spin up but no cpu fan nada .

Now I'm thinking either a faulty power supply or blown caps on the MB, a couple of the larger ones do look rounded on the top with residue traces . . . .

Anyone got a sledgehammer I can borrow . . . . ? :badpc:

730968 2008-12-20 03:52:00 Ha it's not mine

It's one I said i'd have a look at for a friend, doesn't look good

I might try swapping a power supply but when the drive spins up but no case or cpu fan I'm more inclined to think it's the board, I wonder if that was the original problem too, with the rebooting...

730969 2008-12-20 04:35:00 The old dreaded bulging caps! Had one of those boards and replaced the caps, but with a P4, not worth it .

Well, at least your friend knows what to ask Santa for!!
