1434173 2017-04-12 23:06:00 Like everyone else with Windows 10, I have received a pop-up which identifies about 5 new specific privacy features. The descriptions are not too bad, but they have got default settings, which you can change. Defaults are all off, except for sending info to m/s. Now, that leads me to believe that "on" is enabling. However what you decide is unclear. If it is unclear to me and I do some tutoring in software, etc, then it must be very unclear to many of our older, less technically aware, in SeniorNet !

What is the story please ?

1434174 2017-04-13 02:08:00 Which setting or settings in particular are referring to Misty?

I've just updated my machine to the new "Creators" update and I've pretty much turned everything off apart from things like Skype needing access to my camera and the only reason I did that is because I use Skype quite a bit. I've basicaly denied apps access to;

location data
notifications
run in the background
camera / microphone etc.

Basically if I don't use the app it gets a "denied" and anything to do with sharing information which may be remotely sensitive is also summarily disabled as well.

There's a whole lot more but I wil spare you the details.

My rule of thumb is turn it off unless something stops working properly such as apps etc.

I don't use anything from the App store apart from Netflix and I have removed all the "standard" tiles pinned to the Start Menu when Windows 10 was installed.

I have only had one issue occur post update which was the Control Panel automatically closed after I opened it. A quick Google search revealed that this happened to some users when the 1607 update was released as well and had to do with MS drivers replacing existing ones causing some sort of issue. The fix was to re-install my old drivers and this got rid of the issue.

The devices in question were Intel HD Graphics 3000 and IDT High Definition audio. The update also dropped the drivers for my Fingerprint scanner and those drivers had to be re-installed as well. Bar these hiccups the update when smoothly... only time will tell how good.... or bad it really is.

1434176 2017-04-13 02:49:00 Yes, bevy, that is exactly what I am talking about. Interesting that in your image all the switches are shown as "on", whilst the one I received only had one button on, that is mainly why I was wary. Usually these organisations try to lead you down a certain path. Thanks also, chief, all interesting and useful info. Misty (368)
