A big CEO is warning against Ransomware attacks.

I was hit with one 2 years ago, and it is the worst thing that can ever happen.

The suggestions the guy offers use too simplistic.

The best way to stop these attacks is for all the ISP's in the world to get together and ban the people or URL and email servers that are sending them, and then to follow that up with a ban on accepting ANY and ALL Email from ISPs or Countries that do not conform.

Google and Microsoft should also get invloved to come up with ideas to stamp this out once and for all.

Shooting one or two of the perpetrators would not go amiss either.

1433536 2017-03-29 23:08:00 pfft, thats not how the real world works.
Just like saying banning gangs will stop Crime.

Heck, lets start with NZ . NZ is not so innocent in these matters.
Ban NZ from the internet , as we have hackers & spammers . And we havnt caught & shot them all yet

lets dump responsibility on google & MS , typical knee jerk reaction .
Most of the time its self inflicted stupidity thats gets PC's infected. Look in the mirror, theres the real security issue
This is why its some get infected over & over & over again. Click that email link or popup, then blame someone else for not blocking it. :badpc: :badpc:

So when ALL YOUR EMAILS get blocked, forever, because of 1 spammer using the same ISP as you, that will be OK.
And that has(does) happen with some spam filtering services, they block whole NZ ISP's IP ranges .

1433537 2017-03-29 23:42:00 LOL that seems to be your answer to most everything - make the ISP's do it!

Actually, what YOU keep suggesting is so simplistic - but absolutely unworkable in the real world

1433538 2017-03-30 00:49:00 Simple delete it whatever it is Speedy Gonzales (78)
1433539 2017-03-30 01:56:00 I agree with 1101 on "be careful what you select".
There is a huge amount of click bait around. Stop and ask yourself "Do I really need to check out that item?
Most times "no."
Also back to basics - back up your files and programmes regularly.

1433541 2017-03-30 12:41:00 Its so sad that even today Internet users are so susceptible to scams. When will they learn!? Greg (193)
1433542 2017-03-30 17:21:00 I'm a fan of 1)Make an image 2)Back up your image and your data to an external drive. Or two.

Reimage, then restore files.

And yes, most malware is self-inflicted.

1433543 2017-03-30 19:53:00 Yep,backup and backup and a mainstream AntiVirus also a Anti-Ransomware Program for extra security

www.ghacks.net (These update constantly and most are jumping on the $$$ Band wagon)

1433544 2017-03-31 05:13:00 I see not many (any) of you support my ideas.

I'd just like to say that in my defence I have been using computers long before many of you. (Dos etc)
I was around when Victoria University sold their first anti virus program in the 1980's
I went for two years bearback with no anti virus. So I know what I am doing.

Of course most of us know that you should never reply to an usolicted email or offer or pop up etc.
But there are so many today, and you never know what your partner or children etc might do whiel you are away.

My theory is we do not put up with murderers or ribbers we catch them and jail them.
We should do the same with certain spammers and all phishers.
They waste a lot of my valuable time in having to delete their emails etc etc.

And why should I have to pay $60 for a premium anti malware program just so that these people can continue their low life work.

Computing should be fun not a minefield.

Imagine if you were say 60 or 70 and just bought a desktop for the first time! Don't do this, Don't do that.
