1433494 2017-03-28 22:30:00 So Winzip has turned into a bloated POS.
Its even sticking its tenticles into Word/excel (comm addons) , puts crap into the startup & even gets flagged as malware

Im after easy to use Winzip alternatives, for the non techy types .
I want to remove the newer Winzip crap, & put an alternative on (for zipping )
Something easy to use

any suggestions : must default to zip when compressing ( not compress to .7z , rar etc )
Can 7zip be setup to use .zip as default compression ?

1433495 2017-03-28 22:39:00 OK, seems basic zipping is built into Win7 , via right mouse click
Still, any easy alternatives to Winzip ?

1433496 2017-03-28 22:51:00 7zip - www.7-zip.org/download.html

Can make .7z files which are more compressed (potentially), but can be set to make .zip file too.

1433497 2017-03-28 23:07:00 Personally I use Peazip http://www.peazip.org/

To change the default Zip Program in W10 --Open the default Programs Window ( search Default, select Default programs) Select Choose Default Apps by File type

7977

Scroll down to .zip, .RAR or what ever else you want to change, and change the default to peazip.

1433498 2017-03-28 23:08:00 I used to use CamUnzip, it works ok. http://www.camunzip.com/ Terry Porritt (14)
1433499 2017-03-28 23:22:00 I like 7Zip personally. WinZip has turned into total bloated adware. wratterus (105)
1433500 2017-03-29 00:04:00 I just use windows explorer, good enough for me but I rarely zip anything. In these days of cheap storage and uncapped broadband I find no need to zip anything personally.
That said I do use 7zip, but only for those occasions when I'm sent something windows won't open.

1433501 2017-03-29 04:40:00 Been using 7zip for years, way better than Winzip. The first time you use it, it does default to 7z format, but once you have changed the Archive Format to zip, it remembers it and default to zip next time. Geek4414 (12000)
