At this stage i'm running Tails 3 beta, which runs off USB and tries to maintain your privacy online. The upsurge in VPN searches, I wanted to see how Tails would fit this puzzle.

What are you using the USB sticks for? I remember how difficult it was to get USB working in VirtualBox that instead I shared the USB from the host and accessed it like a shared drive.

Hi Kame. I like the range of software for Mint, and the software manager. I need the USB to save data to, and install software. I have got around it by copying everything to to a CD to install the software. One problem with mint is that it takes as long to boot as Windows. FatDog64 is very compact, has a good range of software and boots in a few seconds. I have not found a virtual machine for it that works.

1433529 2017-04-07 02:53:00 I have now given up trying to get Windows into Linux, so now trying to get Linux into Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit.
The Linux installs but will not run: "needs X86-64 CPU, can only find i686 CPU"
VirtualBox also only lists 32bit distros. This Dell Vostro has a 64 bit Intel 2 core 1.8ghz CPU. Both Fatdog64 & Mint64 run fine on it. (dual booted)
There is is no setting in BIOS for CPU emulation.
BIOS is set to Legacy.

1433530 2017-04-07 03:26:00 You can run 64 bit guests on 32 bit host OS, but only if your CPU has VT-x.
So does it?

1433531 2017-04-07 09:23:00 I don't buy that! I get the same results with a Lenovo, 4core Intel 2.5ghz running Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit. The whole thing is a load of rubbish. Have used VMware several times in the past without these hassles. I think I will stick with Fatdog64 dual booting with WW7. Only need Windows for my cashbook and a couple of web editors. What I like about Fatdog64 is that it boots in a few seconds, and unlike Windows you don't waste time updating everything, virus scanning etc. Fatdog64 has all the advantages of a Chromebook, plus built in software.
Neither computer has VT-x.
