1432853 2017-03-15 07:04:00 Single, 25+ years $210.13 is the dole.

My mum is on a pension. She gets $800 ish a fortnight. She has no mortgage left to speak off. She does OK, she's saving $100 a fortnight.

How come your mum on a single pension does all right and saves some money and yet Roscoe above with two pensions is not doing well.

Something is not quite right.

1432856 2017-03-16 00:26:00 Fair enough. That is how democracy is supposed to work. At least in this country we pretty much accept the result of our elections and get on with life instead of constantly trying to relitigate it as they appear to in some places :)

Basically - I'm under no illusions about TOP's chances of winning a seat. Having said that, I'd be happy if they got over the 5% threshold.

In the USA - it depends which aspects of their current political landscape you're talking about. I don't really have any time for the 'Not my President' lot. Trump won, and he is the President.

However, if you're referring to the states and judges blocking his anti-immigration bans, I'd say this: they're doing their job, and they're acting within their constitutional rights. If a judge rules a travel ban is discriminatory, the President was not within his rights to implement that ban. :)

Two pensions come to $1040 a fortnight. Most people make much more than that a week - and that's before tax. We are doing alright but we have nothing left over for luxuries.

Beats me.
She pays $220 power roughly, averaging it out summer/winter.
Around the same in insurances.
Net and landline is about $100.
Rubbish (3rd party) is about $150 every 6 months.
No water bill.
Sky $58 a month.
Her food bill is huge, she pops into the supermarket every couple of days to "get milk and a couple of things" and spends $1000 a month easy.
But hey, everyone needs a hobby.....

She pays the lawn man $20 a fortnight.
And that's it.

I know cause I helped her change things after my dad died, I expected her income to be crap, but no.

So you tell me, no rent or mortgage, pensioners have enough really.
With rent or mortgage, yes, it can be an issue.

My mum gets $802. There is lawn man money and a disability (doctors and prescriptions) allowance on top of her pension.

People with rent or mortgages can get an Accommodation Supplement (but it's not that great) and possibly some Temporary Additional Support.

I forgot her rates, she is now getting the rates rebate so pays $11 a fortnight in rates now.
With my dad, they got no rebate as their income was too high for it.

Perhaps a few less of these trips might allow a few luxuries?
