732210 2008-12-24 04:59:00 Hi all,
My system is a Pentium 4 3.00 GHz. 2 GB ram and GeForce 7600gs Graphics.
I am using a 19' monitor at the moment but are thinking of upgrading to a 24' lcd as the size increase will be easier for my eyes.
This is only for normal use, not high end games.
Will my set up have problems using a larger monitor with higher resolutions?
Are some brands of widescreen to be avoided?
Any thoughts/comments appreciated.

732211 2008-12-24 05:23:00 No should be OK. Just as long as the videocard supports whatever the resolution is for the WS LCD.

I changed from a 19' WS to a 22' WS HD LCD.

The card supports the resolution. All I had to do, was use overscan in CCC to make the screen/desktop wider.

ps. What is overscan in CCC ??

732213 2008-12-24 10:16:00 Overscan (or scaling) in CCC, lets you stretch the desktop to the sides of the screen (so there are no black borders)

On here 1920 (the resolution) only went as so far, I had to use overscan, so the desktop stretched to the sides

Or else you'll see the desktop and the black borders (around it)

732214 2008-12-24 18:23:00 Check what the maximum resolution of your graphic card is. Just because you have a big screen your card might not give you the full resolution you think you might get.

ie I have two 22" wide screen monitors on my PC , one can do 1920x1080 the other 1680 x 1080. Gigabyte GV-NX88T512 card.

On my P4 machine the graphic card is an AGP also hooked to a 22" wide screen 1680 x 1080. Gigabyte GV-N55128DP GeForce FX 5500 card. 1680 x 1080 is not an option from that card.

Yes I checked the supported resolutions of my graphics card and 1920 x 1440....1920 x 1200 are both there so I should be sweet.
Now just have to see if Santa is in a good mood;)

732216 2008-12-24 19:43:00 If it is a wide screen monitor I think your graphics card needs to support 1920x1080.

Had no problems with my Viewsonic monitor. Just plugged it in strait out of the box with no problems. Mine is a VX2233WM.

732218 2008-12-24 19:50:00 Umm no, depends what the native resolution of the monitor is

It maybe / can be 1440 x 900, on a WS LCD

Its only set to 1920x1080 on this, because its the LCD's native resolution (It supports HD)

732219 2008-12-24 19:55:00 Looking at monitors on PriceSpy, it seems that the main resolutions are 1920x1200 and 1920x1080 for 24"
Easy enough to choose:)
