732127 2008-12-24 00:44:00 Hi all,

I got the above last night (early xmas pressie! :D) but can't get it going; when plugged is as it should be (Telecom Thomson modem ==> WAN port of Linksys, LAN port of Linksys ==> LAN port on my laptop), the Linksys install CD just hangs, and tells me my PC isn't connected. It obviously is, as it's getting an IP from the Thomson.

I can log into the Linksys, and there are a lot of options for configuring the WAN, but I'm a little confused with them:

- Automatic Configuration - DHCP (this is the default)
- Static IP
- PPPoE
- PPTP
- L2TP
- Telstra Cable

Shouldn't the router just 'pass through' the internet connection from the modem?

My thomson modem is on 192.168.1.254, and Linksys's LAN IP is 192.168.1.1 but the WAN IP is 192.168.1.54 (obviously set by the thomson??)

So my laptop is connected to Linksys the at 1.0Gbps as it should be, but I can't access any internet sites.

Is it possible that both devices are acting as DHCP servers/firewalls, and this is the issue??

Ahhh - router's LAN side needs to be on a different subnet than the WAN side? Makes sense actually. Will try it when I get home.

My previous wireless unit (cheap little Belkin) was just used in Access Point mode, so I didn't have to worry about routing functionality.

Thanks Wainuitech!!
