A HP 8150 Laserjet was purchased second hand to be shared on a network of up to 5 systems.
Does it have to be conected directly to one of the systems or can it just be conected to the network.

731703 2008-12-22 06:11:00 Is it just an 8150 or is it 8150n /8150dn?

The n means it has a network card built in.

Not sure but it does has a network card.
So what is the next move to get the systems to see it & indeed use it?
There is another inkjet printer on the network but it is conected via USB to one of the systems.

731706 2008-12-22 06:41:00 You would need to add it on each computer as a new shared printer I think from memory gary67 (56)
731707 2008-12-22 06:45:00 First thing would be to connect it all up, power & switch/router and then check to see what IP address it has.
Not sure how you do it on the 8150 but you should be able to print out a network configuration page without a PC.
You will need to check to see if it has a subnet that matches your network.
Hopefully it will be set to DHCP and you have a DCHP server on your network otherwise you will need to set a static IP.

731708 2008-12-22 06:52:00 OK but does that mean installing drivers or giving it an address or what?
My extensive knowledge of networking could be written on the back of a postage stamp.

731709 2008-12-22 06:53:00 Well you'll probably need drivers, like any other printer

If thats what you mean

731710 2008-12-22 07:47:00 So we instal drivers to all the systems & then do what CYaBro sugests.
Getting the correct drivers was another problem. I went to HP website but couldn't decide on the most appropriate drivers for XP.
