732350 2008-12-28 01:21:00 If you want to buy things over the internet on sites that require a credit card, you should consider the Visa debitplus card from Westpac. Works just the same but you can't spend money you don't have, and the only fee is $10 a year.

If you don't already have a Westpac account you can sign up for one called "Elect" which (provided you stop paper statements and don't do any manual transactions at a branch) is entirely free.

732351 2008-12-28 01:48:00 Yeah I might look into that. Does anybody use it? If so what do you think about the debitplus card? convair (13650)
732352 2008-12-28 02:03:00 I've got one and use it mainly for buying CDs from other countries. Works very well. Westpac do charge a 2% fee if you are buying in a currency different to NZD but if you use Paypal with it, the fee is gone as Paypal convert to NZD themselves, with no fee.

It can also be used as an EFTPOS card so is quite good there also.

732353 2008-12-28 02:50:00 I got a loaded card from Nz Post, I find it good, but it costs $1 each time you put money on it, and it is a slight pain having to wait 24hrs for money to appear if you do internet banking, and you may also have to remember 2 pins (1 eftpos, 1 loaded) so I've completely forgotten my loaded pin, which is slightly annoying. davidmmac (4619)
