The cold weather is freakish and not normal right now . Most times we do not get to freezing points here in our valley . That's why we have such a lot of citrus and avocado trees here . They need cold, but not freezing to make all the botanical things happen . Getting hit by the Pineapple Express from Hawaii with a cold cold North N'Easter is strange too . All our reservoirs are full to overflowing, but the local mountains are not getting the precipitation they should . . . and haven't for over 10 years now . What we really need is some sort of consistency in the weather extremes we are getting . This next year will tell if we get to survive with no more water coming from the Colorado River, which supplies about 60% of our in-water to California . The mountains tonight are going to get a good dusting of snow, down to 3,000 feet or so . This isn't enough . There used to be streams and creeks all over the place about 30 years ago . . but not any more . Sad . I just bought a new digital camera (Kodak Easy Share C653) and will be taking a lot more pictures to post on ForNewZealandersToSee ( . msn . com/ForNewZealandersToSee/_whatsnew . msnw" target="_blank">groups . msn . com) and feel free to do some yourself if you like . |
