731853 2008-12-22 23:53:00 Is there any way to do this? I just want a plain black screen when Windows boots, with no logo or little loading-widget thingy?

Because this is a minimal installation I'd rather not install any 3rd party tools to do this if possible??

:)

731854 2008-12-23 00:02:00 Try this (www.metacafe.com)

Start/run, type msconfig, boot.ini tab / tick noguiboot, reboot

Do it at your own risk

731856 2008-12-23 00:47:00 Cool - msconfig option worked like a charm.

Now what about removing the XP Welcome screen? I don't mean disabling it via control userpasswords2 either - I mean just having a plain black screen.

I know 3rd party tools like Logon Studio can do it, but there must be a registry hack or something??

731858 2008-12-23 01:01:00 You can set it to classic logon and then have it log on automatically...... jwil1 (65)

731860 2008-12-23 01:07:00 You said its a minimal install.
If you are installing from scratch then have a look at nlite (google it) - Its a great tool - You can remove lots of rubbish from windows and set it to behave the way you want (auto login etc) dont display windows login screens etc etc. I really recommend it.
But as I said it would need to be a clean install you are planning.
