| 528423 | 2007-02-26 21:34:00 | I've had it . . . in the first place . . . (sorry to admit this, but it worked for me at the time) when I had AOL> . . tech help was somewhere in the Punjab or Tehran . . . and even though the person on the opposite end of the phone was trying REALLY REALLY hard to understand and be understood . . . it just didn't work . Now, that wasn't the ONLY problem I had with AOL . . and I don't want to re-hash that stuff . . . but the language, especially ESL, or "English-As-A-Second-Language" types of people do not float my boat . Don't get me wrong . . Americans love accents . . . just think of Crocodile Dundee and all the Sherlock Holmes movies we watch, but having someone who doesn't have much of your "tongue" when trying to help you with a problem . . . all the while they are being so gracious and condescending . . . just drives me nuts . "I am an Fred; how is it that I may be of assisting to you for the duration of this communication?" does NOT compute! Here's a breath of life and fresh air though . "Some of Silicon Valley's largest technology companies, in an effort to cut costs and address a mounting stack of customer-service complaints, are embracing an offshoring trend known as ``nearshoring . '' Unlike the traditional offshoring that flung U . S . customer call centers halfway around the world to India and other faraway countries, nearshoring sends white-collar jobs to Costa Rica, Mexico and other countries in the Western Hemisphere . " Now . . . and here's where it gets funny . . . when Apu wants to get tech support for HIS stuff . . . he's gonna get to talk to some Mexican who speaks an English/Spanish verbal blend we call "Spanglish" . . . lol Works for me! |
