732943 2008-12-27 23:30:00 I'm using Seagate Disk Wizard (a version of Acronis True Image) and found it first rate for restoring the Drive C System and Programs image when Win XP crashes and requires a reinstall of Windows. I've found that one program is missing from a recently installed drive image but it is on an earlier image. Disk Wizard says you can restore individual folders or files and what I want to know from experienced users if there could be a problem in just restoring the missing program file to the current Drive C. Perhaps I could restore it to a separate backup drive and try it out. Can you do that without causing problems?Any help would be appreciated. Krad (7878)
732944 2008-12-28 00:02:00 If its only 1 program then reinstall it - programs dont just install the programs folder, they will be in the registry as well, and it they aint there they aint gonna work.;) wainuitech (129)

Won't restoring the program folder to the current Drive C reinstall the program as originally? I don't have the original program CD but only the image. Should I try to restore it to Drive C or to the separate Backup drive?

732946 2008-12-28 02:35:00 As I mentioned if its not in the reg then it wont work - since the original drive image didn't put it back, then who knows what else is missing.

Having the program folder is only half of the program, thats why many people have problems - data you can transfer - programs you cant usually, reinstalling them will put in all the reg keys, dll files etc.

Whats the program thats missing ?

732947 2008-12-28 21:04:00 The program was not on the drive image restored a week ago. However it was on a earlier drive image from back in 2007. What I want to do if practical is just restore the program image folder from the earlier image leaving the rest of Drive C intact. I assume that the earlier program image includes the registry keys etc. The program is Honestech TVR which runs video etc through the TV card. Krad (7878)
732948 2008-12-28 22:48:00 Never tried to do it that way - it may put in the reg keys, but I wouldn't try it.

If you have the original product key - which would have come with the software - download the Trial Version (www.honestech.com) and use your own product key. I would imagine a program like that would install many features - only takes one not to be installed from the image and it wont work.

If you dont have the product Key then you could always try installing the good image on another HDD and extracting the key from that - theres several free programs that would allow this.

Edited: If you registered the software Go Here (honestech.com) - it looks like they can send you the original key.
