732633 2008-12-26 02:31:00 I remember in the dim dark days of DOS there was a program which allowed you to change what each key did. Never used it but now a friend hugely fed up with constantly hitting his Caps Lock key in error wants to change that function. Anybody know of a program that enables you to do this? Thomas01 (317)
732634 2008-12-26 02:32:00 Whats the OS? Would changing it really be any better or would disabling be the best bet? stormdragon (6013)
732635 2008-12-26 03:35:00 Sorry for hyjacking thread but I have the same problem on my laptop. Very frustrating as I do a lot of tabing and that shift key is below the tab key.
Disable would be best for me. Never use caps lock anyway

Cheers Colin

Disable Caps Lock on Mac OS X

By far the most frustrating key on the keyboard has to be CAPS LOCK. Does any one ever use this key!? After many years of accidentally pressing it, I finally stumbled upon the way to disable it.

Go to the Keyboard & Mouse Preferences
Select Modifier Keys
And change Caps Lock Key to No Action

Although I started this thread and at times get caught out by Caps Lock, I do in fact use it. But then I was brought up 60 years ago on manual typewriters. The placing of the key seems correct on my computers but I accept that perhaps it would be better with a different design - I wonder if anybody has tried redesigning the key itself.
Funny enough I remember when working at BAC being highly criticized by my boss for using a typewriter. No engineer should be seen using such a device was his feeling. I wonder how he feels about things now. I decided that typewriters were an essential tool for all trades while still in my teens and although learning engineering also became skilled on a typewriter. For once I was not only ahead of my time but actually correct. Wonders never cease.

I tried the XP link you showed - just for the interest.
But my computer insisted that this program contained a virus.
I did not open it but deleted it from my files and then later on decided to risk it. But was not able to make contact again with the website.
Strange indeed!
Anybody else tried it?:

732642 2009-01-02 09:13:00 I have followed up on my own original suggestion. I have redesigned the Caps Lock key on my desktop. Not the way I wanted to. If I really had it the way I wanted then I would have it off to the side and probably sunken.
Instead I have stuck a lump of violent red plasticine on it.
Looks horrible but strangely enough it does seem to make a difference - I haven't hit the Caps Lock key in error since doing this. I trust the other complainants have realised that they can add sound effects to the key! A high note for being hit on and a low note for off.
