The latest iTunes update provides the strongest hint yet that Apple will soon sell TV shows in Australia through its online media store.

And recent announcements by Nine suggest it will be one of the first networks to take part.

Apple already offers a TV show download service in the US, but Australians have missed out due to the local networks' apparent reluctance to use the internet as a distribution tool for their programs.

The hint can be found in the "parental control" settings menu of iTunes, which allows users to restrict the movies and TV shows that can be bought, based on their ratings (eg PG).

Previously this was limited to the US ratings system, but in the latest version, 7.1, users are presented with a drop-down box allowing them to select their country.

The presence of Australia on the list of available countries has been interpreted as a blatant hint that TV shows and movies will soon be available to Australian customers.

Other regions on the list are New Zealand, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand and the United Kingdom, suggesting they too might soon get iTunes TV and movie downloads.

530854 2007-03-07 04:01:00 I haven't downloaded it yet but apparently the latest iTunes 7.1 update has a number of references/features to Apple TV in it as well as a number of Quicktime security updates.

I am pretty sure that existing video files from iTunes can be burned to DVD as opposed to just stored on your HD which would be a lot easier to use especially if you have a lot of DVDs in your collection ( That is what Front Row is for.)

Quote from Apple CFO "We've sold over 2 billion songs, 50 million TV shows, 1.3 million movies."
