530635 2007-03-06 10:52:00 Hi people here is an interesting link (www.newsdaily.com) about computer driving games and ordinary driving. mikebartnz (21)
530636 2007-03-06 11:42:00 i'm not surprised actually, i know jumping from my dirtbike immediately to roadbike can be a hairy first few hundred meters... and i've driven my car after a serveral hour stint on trackmania nations and realised that i was racing (as much as a 1300cc FWD automagic can).

has anyone found that music affects their driving too? funny thing is all my music falls into the 'wrap yourself around a tree' category:D

still, it's sad to see that people who can't distinguish a video game from reality are even allowed to drive:groan:, surely they realise what they are doing and correct their behavior!

if they try to blame video games (which they will) it's another sad case of this mentality of not being responsible for your own actions.

i think video games, of all genres, are beneficial in allowing us to live in a virtual reality where we can do things safely without harm to anyone or anything. i'm content with my virtual boy-racer on NFS underground and feel no need to spend thousands making a sh*tbox car look like it can go fast (instead i got a sportbike - cheaper and no modification required:D)

and anyone who says games like counterstrike/grand theft auto etc should pull their heads out of the sand and see what's on the TV for christs sake. that combined with the fact that no sane person would act out those games, and that those games are mere copies of the darker side of the world (and TV) you can't blame video games for an individuals actions.

and FPS games DO NOT 'train' you to use a gun, unless that gun is aimed using a mouse with laser sight giving a visible crosshair (or auto aiming in GTAs case) and has a button to reload it

Wait, Zero chance it was their money they wasted.

Speeding? Impossible, he's still wheelspinning so furiously for the first 300M that the acceleration is actually very gentle (Unless the tyre melts, then all bets are off).
There should be signs warning of an intermittent smoke visibility hazard though.

530644 2007-03-07 20:17:00 i personally reckon its a load of crap - any kid would say anything to shift the blame on the car he just totaled "OHNOES I PLAYED GRAN TURISMO 5 minutes before driving and rolling my car!!!" its just a cowardly scapegoat so the kids get away with it - a few years ago when i wrote off my parents car - i did int just prang it - i broke it good and proper  - i did int go into a frenzy of blaming computer games and trying to run away from the blame - i did it - i was the stupid prat that pushed the car too far and totaled it and i payed the price for it - i still am literally

so what im saying is all these stories about racing games making people race and wreck cars are just avoiding the problem and everyone goes off to sue game developers cause "their game made their kid roll a car" and the kid gets off with a slap on the wrist and his parents go buy him a nice Nissan skyline with 300HP..... :horrified :angry :waughh:
