530381 2007-03-05 07:02:00 Hiya guys

I regularly check my BB D/L speed with the NZDSL speed checking program. I am on the old Xtra Discovery plan (10G/mnth). I seem to get about 500 kbps in the evenings, but at other times it can go as high as 2600 - 3000 kbps. My question - this old plan should not be "controlled back" like the Go Large plans, should it?

530382 2007-03-05 07:50:00 No, it should not. I'm on Adventure plan but the same thing happens... but then they never promised your speed would be constant on the 'old' plans. Shortcircuit (1666)
530383 2007-03-05 20:33:00 This is the case with almost every ADSL connection, it doesn't make any difference which plan you are on. The reason it is slow in the evenings is because everyone in your neighbourhood is online and your exchange doesn't have the capacity to support that many users (GoLarge also had other issues on top of this that made it slower than other plans at peak times). They are slowly upgrading the exchanges, but in general, that is the speed you will be stuck with for the foreseeable future in most cases. About a month ago, some Telecom salesmen - who were selling cellphones, not broadband - were in my neighbourhood and said the capacity for our area was going to be significantly increased at the beginning of March. It will be interesting to see how long it really will be. :p maccrazy (6741)

530389 2007-03-08 02:34:00 Turns out you used the wrong heading for this thread. Xtra Speed is an Oxymoron.

The two words cannot fit together.

Come to think of it, is there a word in the English language as the opposite of speed ? (no there is not)
