Also does anyone know what the legal amount of time a lunch break should be?

530371 2007-03-05 08:16:00 Basically i work shift work, i just want to know what the requirement is in terms of breaks at a PC, as i cannot stare at a screen for long periods of time.

I work 8 hours a day, i get a 15min breaks 2hours after i start, an hour and a half later i get a 30min lunch break and then maybe 2 hours laer i get another 15. Is this legal? As management are not very helpful in terms that the air con dries y eyes (i wear contact lenses only(

530373 2007-03-05 08:57:00 There is an Approved Code of Practice for safe use of computers in the workplace.

You'll find it in VDUs in the Place Of Work.
And that's somewhere in the Department of Labour website, I think.
Google for it.

If you belong to a union, ask there.
It's something several unions, including Clerical Workers, laid down rules for way back, as I recall.s

Yes it is legal. Lunch (unpaid), morning, afternoon tea (paid) is standard practice in most workplaces.

Yes, it is . You probably get more breaks than a few people I know but if you are having problems with viewing a monitor for long periods of time it would pay to speak to your supervisor or boss to come to an arrangement to have shorter breaks a bit more often .

If that is not possible or feasible you might need to start looking for a job elsewhere where you are not stuck in front of a monitor all day .

Look after your eyes, they are the only ones you have got . ;)

530377 2007-03-09 22:49:00 I work with 12+ monitors everyday, I think every now and then we get somebody to come in and check the refresh rate of the screens. Doesnt sound like much but it helps.:2cents: rob_on_guitar (4196)
