| 530971 | 2007-03-09 23:30:00 | Robbyp, that post was well out-of-order mate! Why?, see my post above. I am paying tax now, but the governemt have made it pretty clear that by the time I reach retirement age, they won't be paying pensions. So essentially my taxes aren't going towards my pension. The goverment have been promoting self sufficency and personal retirement savings, which is money I have to pay out of my post tax income, into a retirement saving scheme. The goverment used to only pay people pensions for 10 years, as people didn't used to live for very long after they retired. Now people are living longer, in some caes the goverment have to pay pensions to some people for 40 years or more. Where is all this money going to come from when the baby boomers are in the 65-75 age group? Are we going to be importing low cost care workers from the islands and india? |

How old are you??? This is a debate in a forum, and reverting to name calling instead of debating the facts just shows your maturity . Simple fact, don't rely on the government, be self sufficient, and this is what the government have also been telling us . What about the unemployment benefit, we pay taxes so that if in the event we should become unempoyed there is a safety net . However the national government set up a work for the dole scheme (now scrapped)so the unemployed would be working for that benefit, however haven't the unemployed already paid for it in their taxes . You obviously don't understand how the economy works and how much of a problem this issue is going to become in the next few decades . |

I'll get in touch with IRD first thing on Monday and tell them I'm going to be self sufficient so there is no longer a need for me to take the retirement pension portion out of my income and hand it over to them. On the other point, you know the volunteer service to society one, do we get brownie points accruing to time off for good behaviour in retirement if we do volunteer work during our working life? Does coaching teams, sitting on committees, endlessly fund-raising and telling precious pissants to F off come under helping the community? Did you think to ask the thread starter if he had previously, or is currently involved in volunteer work, before you insulted him and the other retirees ? |
