| 530745 | 2007-03-07 08:47:00 | Rear projection is never as good as CRT or LCD. For a start the actual projection panel is very small and is magnified up to the full screen size. They just can't do the definition and only look good from a decent viewing distance. My sister-in-law bought a big Sony projection TV and I have been underwhelmed by its performance. I spent many years in the TV business and know a good picture when I see one, and this one ain't good. IMHO, Plasma is no better. I have a new Sony 32" Bravia LCD and while it is subjectively good when absorbed in the program, under close scrutiny it is nowhere near as good as my Sony Flat screen CRT TV, and is only at its best when viewed from directly in front. Off-line the contrast and colour suffer. For all that, I'm happy with it, but I'm not blind to its limitations. Another problem is the preset image settings. Vivid is gross and Standard isn't much better. Custom takes careful setting but will produce the goods if you know what you are doing. I'd still go LCD before Projection or Plasma.
