| 530119 | 2007-03-04 22:18:00 | my friend has a commercial blog(has ads on it),and he is looking for some free photos for commercial use? You can get these cartoon pictures etc for free, but he wants photos, like of celebrities etc. is there any place you can get photos free of charge for commericial use? can't you just get a photo from any website, and when you post it on your website, just say you got the photo from url.com? |

| 530120 | 2007-03-04 23:03:00 | There are many royalty-free and copyright-free image places on the Net. Sorry I can't find the links right now because my bookmarks are a disaster zone. However... you could go to Wikipedia (en.wikipedia.org) and look up whoever you want an image of. The images that are frequently featured usually have quite precise copyright information, and chances are that you'll find what you need and the provisos for use. |

However . . . you could go to Wikipedia ( . wikipedia . org/wiki/Main_Page" target="_blank">en . wikipedia . org) and look up whoever you want an image of . The images that are frequently featured usually have quite precise copyright information, and chances are that you'll find what you need and the provisos for use . Also try IMDB (http://imdb . com/) - they have zillions of images of the stars that feature in movies - there's likely many copyright-free images amongst them . |

| 530123 | 2007-03-05 01:33:00 | Another thought I had is... there are many uses of images that don't incur the copyright gods' wrath. These often include being used on a website, commercial or otherwise. Sometimes the promotion of an image is to the copyright holder's advantage, so can be used without penalty. I would think that this would exclude magazines who have photos of celebrities because they have to pay a bundle to get them, but there'd sure be a lot of others who'd welcome the extra exposure. |

| 530125 | 2007-03-05 04:53:00 | It doesn't really have celebrity photos, but I would also recommend iStock for general royalty free images, though there is a small cost associated with using each photo. | maccrazy (6741) | ||
| 530126 | 2007-03-05 05:24:00 | . . . can't you just get a photo from any website, and when you post it on your website, just say you got the photo from url . com? You can do that; it's possible . You may not do that; it's illegal . Everything is protected by copyright . You may use a "thing" only if you have the (prior) permission of the copyright owner . That's not new (Internet) law . It's always been the law . | Graham L (2) | ||

But surely a cost - no matter how small - is a royalty of some kind to somebody? Isn't that what the word implies i.e not free? |
