733461 2008-12-29 20:48:00 Hello all,
Recently I have installed a Belkin N modem/wireless router for my Internet. I'm with Telstra Clear broadband. I did set up the whole router as per instructions. With the wired connection I get connected to the internet in a flash and all works very very well and fast. However when tried to connect wirelessly I get 100% connection to the wireless network in a one second with very good signal quality but I cannot connect to the Internet. When I hover the mouse over the icon with the two screen in the bottom right hand corner it shows ' Access Local Only' ........when I try to launch Inter Explorer it comes up with 'Page not Displayed' error. The best part starts now, after around 20 to 30 minutes sometimes more I get access to Internet and the message in the Right hand corner now changes to ' Access Local and Internet' once connected I can browse any site I want and the connection stays on till hours together.
My problem and query after this long lecture is, Why I'm I not getting access to Internet right away...???? why do I have to wait for half hour or more before I get connected. I have checked many help sites and read related issues but none is matching my criteria where I do get connection to the net but after a long time.
I'm running Vista Business on my Laptop.
Hope someone has heard about this ‘unique’ problem and has a solution. Any suggestions are welcome, very tired of this issue.
Thanks and Regards.
Aspi.

733462 2008-12-29 22:34:00 What instructions? Did you go into the modem and do it manually? You should also have setup up security on it to prevent anyone else messing with it. WPA-2 preferably.

How do you connect? Via the WIndows Wireless connection or the actual Wifi card utility? I find its better to use the utility and disable the WIndows one - if you can.

733463 2008-12-29 22:39:00 Is the laptop wireless N capable?
If not try setting the router back to wireless B/G and see if that helps.
Also do you have another laptop or something you can use to test the wireless router with? This will help to see if the problem is the router or the laptop.

733464 2008-12-29 23:01:00 Hello pctek,
Thanks for your reply, the security set-up is done and OK, does this affect connectivity to the net...???
I normally connect thorugh the 'Connect To' menu from 'Start' and then select my network. I guess this must be the Windows Wireless way. Please explain how to connect using the WiFi card...??? The need to connect does not arise as I get connected to my wireless network in a flash, it is just the internet.

Hello CYaBro,
Thanks for your reply as well. Please let me know how do I find out if my laptop wireless is N capable. Will try to set the rrouter to B/G as suggested by you. I do not have another laptop to check.
Regards.

733465 2008-12-29 23:14:00 Hey akolah. To find out whether your laptop is wireless-N capable, try googling the model number associated with the wireless adaptor and check out the specifications.

Cheers :)

733467 2008-12-30 06:52:00 In that case, the wireless adaptor supports only "a" and "g" standards. :) Renmoo (66)
