733295 2008-12-29 05:31:00 Hey ive been wondering about lan and usb; because i have a desktop(which im using) and a mate has a laptop but the laptop incredibly slow etc etc... but anyway im wondering how can i connect the computers through usb or lan so i can go through his files and delete stuff or use spyware/anti-virus(the actuial reason i want to know)

cuz ive connect lan aand it says its connected but i just thought it would show his drives on my computer and vice versa.... but obviously not; i'd prefer to find a usb connection type of thing but lan is prolly cheaper. if someone knows can they tell me how to do both methods?

733296 2008-12-29 05:34:00 So, wheres the laptop now, with you or somewhere else??

If its with you now, just boot it, why use USB or ethernet?

733297 2008-12-29 05:41:00 because its only 1.4ghz w/ 256mb ram and its incredibly slow at anything; and before you ask its not mine so i dont want to delete just anything to speed it up i only want to be able to scan it quickly with avg/spybot without actually having to do anything but turn it on. its loaded with crap but the guy whos uses it is old so he doesnt realise what have the junk is but he still likes it anyway ZapperBoy10647 (11988)
733298 2008-12-29 05:49:00 Yer, so where is it?? Is it with you or somewhere else?

I would use malwarebytes and do a scan. Do it in safe mode if it works

And use ccleaner to remove the temp files etc

733299 2008-12-29 05:50:00 lol i dont even know if it has stuff; and its in the other room(its actually hogging my internet connection so im from 2mbps to 500kbs for some reason(its on wireless) ZapperBoy10647 (11988)
733300 2008-12-29 05:51:00 Computers connected together through LAN won't just magically show their drives to each other.

You must share the drive/folder that you want to look at first.

But the PC will need to be up and running and booted into windows and I doubt it will be much faster than running Antivirus etc on the PC itself (in fact it would probably be slower)

Install some good Antivirus and Antispyware to his PC and then run them in safe mode if you're concerned about speed.

256MB is pretty low for nowadays and if he's got something like Norton antivirus installed on there then that's why it'll be running so slowly. That and all the viruses on there that Norton would have missed

EDIT:

If it's constantly using your Internet connection then you're practically guaranteed it's got some kind of virus/worm/trojan on it.

733301 2008-12-29 06:01:00 nah its not; but the laptops like 2-3 years old so thats why its so crap. the dumbass is running avg 7 free version. lol i just went and downloaded the full version of avg internet security 8 then generated a code lol. funny thing was the thing that generated the code was a trojan and avg picked it up on its first scan lmao!!!!!

but thats off-topic.... if ethernet is slower than using the actuall computer what about a usb connection of some sort? ;i'd figure out how to take out the harddrive except for the fact that my pc can only handle its own on its psu atm....

p.s is anyone here playing wow on saurfang?

733302 2008-12-29 06:13:00 So you tried to make a crack for AVG8 if that's the case you won't get anyone here to help? If not then that's OK, the best thing if you want ot connect them is a crossover cable lan port to lan port. Better still if you can't scan it in safe mode is to remove the HDD and put it in a 2.5' caddy/case and plug it into a usb port on your desktop.

Don't play WOW or any other games.

733303 2008-12-29 06:14:00 Well thats what you get for using keygens  Speedy Gonzales (78)
733304 2008-12-29 06:17:00 3.5' caddy/case and plug it into a usb port on your desktop.

Probably a 2.5" case since its a laptop drive.
